Thundereggs - Esterel Esterel is the place of an important acid magmatisme, 250 million years ago. Volcanic glasses of the type obsidian form in lakeside environment and lead to the forming objects petrographics particular objects: thundereggs (in French: lithophyses). These cannot corectement highlighted that thanks to a sawing and a polishing which is difficult, because of the hardness of the material. The Estérel thundereggs are among the most beautiful of the world. Some present geodic cavities with quartz crystals, either are filled with agate which takes brilliant tints (blue, green, red). Some specimens can reach respectable sizes (up to 60 cms in diameter), but it is disappointing to see the internal motives. 10 cms in diameter is the dimension of a little current good detail specimen. Thundereggs presented here has been collected in a zone which is now forbidden. Additional data are available in the works of G.
